The visitors 269 (De Zorzi 104; Noman 6-112) & 183 (Dewald Brevis 54; Shaheen 4-33, Noman 4-79)
The hosts secured a 93-run victory
Pakistan terminated world champions South Africa's winning streak by completing a 93-run win in an entertaining and competitive first Test in Lahore.
South Africa, who had a 10-Test unbeaten run in Test cricket ended with a win against Australia in the World Test Championship final in the month of June, were bowled out for 183 in pursuit of 277.
Having resumed on 51-2, they saw the dismissal of century-maker Tony de Zorzi leg before wicket to pace bowler Shaheen Afridi to the third delivery of the day to push the tightly balanced chase in Pakistan's favour.
Slow left-armer Noman, who claimed 10-191 in the game, dismissed Stubbs for 2 and bowled Brevis, who put up a fight with a rapid 54.
Off-spinner Sajid Khan also capitalized on sharp turn to end opener Rickelton's stay - he faced 145 deliveries for 45 - and Afridi returned in the post-lunch session to knock over the tail with a impressive exhibition of reverse swing.
He trapped Verreynne lbw for nineteen and bowled Prenelan Subrayen and Rabada to secure the victory.
It was each team's opening game of the 2025-27 World Test Championship cycle and propels the hosts directly into the number two spot behind leaders the Australian team.
Their victory was founded on key performances of 93 by opener Imam-ul-Haq and, importantly, all-rounder Salman Agha which lifted them to 378.
From there spinners Noman Ali and Sajid took advantage of favourable home conditions, as they did in their Test series win over the English team the previous year, to maintain their advantage.
The next and last match begins on October 20.
